Media
relations is one of the most commonly used terms in public relations.
Media relations means using the media to disseminate information about
your company or products.
This
may sound relatively simple, but it’s actually quite complex.
First, you must understand what’s newsworthy –and what’s
not. Then you must understand which medium will be the most effective
to deliver your message. Television? Newspapers? Radio? Magazines? What
about wire services and Web sites?
When
you’ve determined the most effective channels of communication,
then you must understand how to work with each medium:
• Producing content that appeals to audiences and best fits their
needs.
• Adhering to specific style requirements.
• Meeting the media’s deadlines.
