Loring Park Art Festival
Situation:
Created in 2000 by three artists and friends, the Loring Park Art Festival (LPAF)
was the third art festival in St. Paul/Minneapolis to be held on the first weekend
in August. Although local media covered the event in its inaugural year, it was
virtually ignored in 2001. In 2003, the LPAF co-founders turned to RMS Public
Relations to help differentiate their event from the two competing festivals
and increase awareness among potential attendees.
Strategies:
RMSPR created a media kit that leveraged the LPAF’s unique qualities.
It then created a full 12-month plan, which included regional media opportunities
and a wide-ranging, comprehensive media list that included media not typically
targeted for event publicity.
Results:
Media coverage–and festival attendance –has increased each
year since RMSPR was brought in. The 2002/2003 coverage included
