Loring Park Art Festival

Situation:
Created in 2000 by three artists and friends, the Loring Park Art Festival (LPAF) was the third art festival in St. Paul/Minneapolis to be held on the first weekend in August. Although local media covered the event in its inaugural year, it was virtually ignored in 2001. In 2003, the LPAF co-founders turned to RMS Public Relations to help differentiate their event from the two competing festivals and increase awareness among potential attendees.

Strategies:
RMSPR created a media kit that leveraged the LPAF’s unique qualities. It then created a full 12-month plan, which included regional media opportunities and a wide-ranging, comprehensive media list that included media not typically targeted for event publicity.

Results:
Media coverage–and festival attendance –has increased each year since RMSPR was brought in. The 2002/2003 coverage included these Twin Cities media:

  • KARE 11 Today
  • KMSP Fox News
  • Star Tribune (multiple sections)
  • St. Paul Pioneer Press
  • City Pages
  • AAA's Home and Away Magazine
  • WHERE
  • MPLS./ST.PAUL
  • Women's Press
